Greater Bay Area Law and Technology Works-in-Progress Workshop

About the workshop. We are pleased to announce the inaugural Greater Bay Area Law and Technology Works-in-Progress Workshop. The workshop aims to foster richer scholarly exchange on questions of law and technology across the Greater Bay Area, building a stronger community of researchers and a recurring venue where ideas and work can be shared, tested, and developed. This year it is organized by the STL Law and Innovation Program and co-sponsored by the Faculty of Law of the University of Macau, the Law and Technology Centre, The University of Hong Kong, and Sun Yat-sen University Law School.
Format. The workshop is built for serious engagement. Six works-in-progress will be workshopped over the course of a single day, each paired with a dedicated discussant. Papers are circulated in advance and read by all participants, so the day is given over to substantive discussion rather than presentation. The aim throughout is close, constructive feedback that helps authors develop their work.
Scope. We construe “law and technology” broadly. Topics may include, but are not limited to, AI governance, data protection and privacy, intellectual property, platform and fintech regulation, cybersecurity, and digital constitutionalism. Doctrinal, theoretical, empirical, interdisciplinary, and comparative approaches are all welcome.
Eligibility. We invite submissions from Greater Bay Area scholars of all ranks, including doctoral candidates, postdoctoral researchers, and faculty of all ranks. The requirements are simply a connection to the region and an unpublished work-in-progress that would benefit from feedback. Scholars are also warmly welcome to attend without presenting: the broader aim is to gather the people doing law-and-technology scholarship in the Greater Bay Area.
How to submit. Please send a draft paper or an abstract (350-500 words) to giladabiri@stl.pku.edu.cn by 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟮𝟮, 2026. Selected authors will be notified by early August 2026 and asked to circulate complete drafts by November 20, 2026, roughly two weeks before the workshop. Scholars who plan to attend and are willing to serve as discussants are also invited to email us at giladabiri@stl.pku.edu.cn.
Costs. There is no registration fee. The host will cover meals and refreshments on the day of the workshop. Participants are responsible for their own travel and accommodation.
