Wayne Wei Wang is a Non-Resident Fellow at the FGV Center for Technology and Society (Brazil), and an ACCP Fellow at the African Center for Cyberlaw and Cybercrime Prevention (Nelson Mandela University, South Africa). He recently completed his Ph.D. in Law and Technology at the University of Hong Kong.

 

With a background in both Engineering and Law, Wayne’s research examines Intellectual Property, Data Protection, AI Governance, and Science & Technology Studies—emphasizing Law, Innovation, Sustainability, and Technology (LIST) in the context of the Automating Global South. His work has appeared in journals such as Computer Law & Security Review, Journal of AI Law & Regulation, Chinese Journal of Cyber and Information Law, and African Journal of Information & Communication, and in (forthcoming) volumes from Oxford, Cambridge, Routledge, and Springer. He holds an LLM in Intellectual Property from the WIPO-QUT program (Australia) as a Dean’s Scholar and is an Associate Fellow of Advance HE (UK).

 

Wayne is co-drafting the Model Artificial Intelligence Law, deemed as one of the two emerging legislative proposals for AI in China. He also contributes to the UN Internet Governance Forum’s Dynamic Coalition on Data and AI Governance. His honors include the 2025 PTC Emerging Scholar Award granted by the Pacific Telecommunications Council and scholarships/fellowships across six continents.
