Researcher-in-Residence Programme
About the Programme
The Law & Technology Centre at HKU Faculty of Law welcomes short-term visits from researchers who wish to collaborate and exchange ideas with our Faculty. The Programme is open to scholars at all career stages and from any jurisdiction, provided their work relates to law and technology or aligns with the Faculty’s broader research interests.
Who can apply?
The Programme is open to researchers and academics from any jurisdiction and discipline — including interdisciplinary fields — at any career stage, from early-career to senior scholars.
What does a visit involve?
Researchers-in-Residence are expected to contribute actively to Faculty life. This may include conducting independent or collaborative research, participating in seminars, workshops, or conferences, and delivering presentations or lectures. Applicants should describe their proposed activities in their application.
How long can a visit be?
Visits typically range from 1 week to 3 months, though longer stays can be considered.
Is funding available?
The Programme is generally self-funded — applicants are expected to cover their own travel, accommodation, and living expenses. Early-career scholars seeking financial support are encouraged to apply separately to the Outstanding Early Career Visiting Fellowship Scheme, which provides competitive funding including airfare and accommodation.
How to apply
Submit the following to Centre Secretary Ms. Grace Chan at mcgrace@hku.hk:
- A curriculum vitae
- A brief statement of research interests and proposed activities
- Proposed dates and duration of visit
Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. We recommend applying at least 2–3 months before your intended start date.
After acceptance
Researchers-in-Residence will be formally affiliated with the Law & Technology Centre for the duration of their stay and may be granted access to campus facilities and resources, subject to University and Faculty policies.
